"Boston Edison and the Utility Workers called on MREP because of MREP's experience in dealing with labor-management strife in the bituminous coal industry. We were not disappointed. MREP assistance enabled us to wipe out a huge backlog of grievances, avoid strikes, and develop a more constructive labor management relationship".

John J. Higgins, Senior Vice President
Boston Edison

About MREP

MREP is a not-for-profit corporation, founded in 1980 to encourage the use of grievance mediation. The founders of MREP include Bill Hobgood, a former Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service mediator, and former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Labor; Rolf Valtin, former president of the National Academy of Arbitrators; and Stephen Goldberg, professor of law at Northwestern University and author of Getting Disputes Resolved, the best-known study of grievance mediation.

Today, MREP has more than seventy-five trained mediators providing grievance mediation, contract mediation, training, and related services (see MREP Services) across the United States. MREP's mediators are drawn from the top ranks of the labor-management dispute-resolution field. All of them are seasoned mediators; most of them are members of the National Academy of Arbitrators.
